Raymond Steven Semerad, age 77, of Cameron, WI died Sunday, August 21, 2011 at his home. He was born January 23, 1934 to William & Agnes (Svoboda) Semerad in the Town of Bear Lake. He attended Holy Trinity Catholic School & Haugen Elementary School. Ray worked for Barron West before moving to Milwaukee where he graduated from MATC. He went to work for the Heil Company in Milwaukee in 1951 until he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1954 and served until 1956 during the Korean Conflict. Upon his Honorable Discharge he returned to Milwaukee and continued work with Heil Company. After the lay-off, he went to work for the Milwaukee County Parks System as an arborist in the forestry department for 12 years, and then spent 13 years as a supervisor for the Milwaukee Parks & Recreation Department. On August 10, 1957, he was married to Betty Jilek in Milwaukee. After 25 years, he retired at the age of 48 and returned to this area first building a home in Cumberland where they lived until 1989 and then remodeled a cottage into their home on Prairie Lake near Cameron. In 2007 they moved into Cameron. Ray was a great fisherman, never coming home without his favorite catch, blue gills & crappies. He enjoyed taking rides anytime of the week, playing cards, going to garage sales, gardening & just visiting. Most of all his love was his children, grandchildren, family & friends. Ray will be sadly missed for his humor always on time, jokes, cooking & his favorite line, “stick with me and you’ll go places”.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 54 years: Betty of Cameron, son: Raymond Jr. (Lisa) Semerad of Milwaukee, daughter: Connie (Ken) Schaefer of Milwaukee, grandsons: Robert Curtis & Jacob Semerad, great granddaughter: Aleona, brothers: Rudy (Betty) Semerad of Janesville, Richard (Judy) Semerad of Rice Lake & Robert Semerad of Rice Lake, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be (was) held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 27 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Cameron with Father Jack Kisling officiating. Visitation will be (was) held from 4-8 p.m. Friday at the Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Home in Cameron and also for the hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at a later date in Northern Wisconsin Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery at Spooner. Memorials are preferred to the Hope Lodge Cancer Center in Marshfield. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Cameron & Dallas.
