Donovan A. Bensend, age 77, of Dallas, WI went home to be with his Savior Tuesday, March 31, 2009 from Luther Hospital in Eau Claire after slipping on the ice at his home and suffering a traumatic head injury. He was born July 9, 1931 to John & Lucille (Sanford) Bensend at Turtle Lake. He graduated from Barron High School in 1949. On June 11, 1955, he was married to Donna Klein at Hillsdale and the couple farmed in the Town of Dallas until retiring in 2002. Since retiring they have operated Donna’s Kooler at their home. Don loved kids and was a 4-H leader for many years. He also loved to travel and was the Treasurer for the Rice Lake Farmers Market.
Don was preceded in death by his parents & brother: Arlo Bensend. He is survived by his wife: Donna of Dallas, sons: Andy Bensend of Dallas & Steven (Leslie) Bensend of Prescott, daughters: Marjorie (Wayne) McDonald of Centennial, CO & Karen (James) Offord of Arbor Vitae, WI, daughter-in-law: Janet Bensend of Hillsdale, grandchildren: Katie, B.J. & Jordan McDonald, Abe (Stephanie), Austin (Shannon) & Anna Bensend, John & Luke Bensend, Mandie, Abby, Adam & Molly Offord, brother: Theo (Jan) Bensend of Hattiesburg, MS, sisters: Kearney (Lester) Thompson of Dallas, Mary (Cliff) Iverson of Sunburst, MT & Mabel (Elton) Hoff of Hillsdale, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Funeral services will be (were) held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 3 from First Baptist Church in Barron with Rev. Darrel Robinson officiating and interment in Wayside Cemetery in Barron. Visitation will be (was) held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at the Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Home in Dallas and also for the hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron.
