Dennis Sailor Obituary

Dennis Sailor, age 78, of Cameron, Wisconsin, passed away in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, July 5, 2017.

He was born on January 15, 1939, in Warren, Minnesota, to Harry and Berna (LaBine) Sailor. A year after graduating from Warren High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and was based for some time in Japan and Taiwan; those stays kindled a lasting interest in Asia and prompted family trips to Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong, China, and Cambodia. After graduating from the University of North Dakota with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Dennis was employed as an accounting/finance specialist in several Minnesota companies and completed his career when he retired from Amsoil in Superior, Wisconsin.

An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, running dogs in field trials, target shooting, planting trees and flowers, or simply driving his tractor around his Cameron property. Dennis loved a good story or a Western movie/tv show, and his sense of humor brought countless smiles and laughs to his friends and loved ones. Competitive as a high school, college, and Marine Corps athlete, a field trial entrant and as a player in any card game, he was always up for a challenge and never backed down. He was passionate about his love of the USA and his family; his sons remember him as a supportive dad who inspired them to work hard and find happiness in life. Others, too, were encouraged by his sincere interest in their lives. He will be missed by many but especially by Margaret, his wife of 52 years.

Dennis is survived by his wife, Margaret (Fitzsimmons), whom he married on May 29, 1965, in Crookston, Minnesota; sons, Patrick (Michele), of River Falls and James (June), of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia; brother, Robert (Mary Ellen), of Chetek; “granddaughter” Muffin Thitaparun of Bangkok, Thailand; and many other relatives and friends.
