Joyce M. Burling

Joyce Marie Burling, age 82, of Hillsdale, WI died Saturday, August 3rd, 2019 at Heritage Lakeside in Rice Lake. She was born March 7th, 1937 to George & Esther (Bryngelson) Smith at Rice Lake. She was a life-long member of New Scandinavia Lutheran Church in the Town of Maple Grove. She and her husband Don were caretakers of the church & grounds for many years. Joyce was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother & great great grandmother. She loved quilting, sewing & helping everyone she could.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, first husband: Everett Olson, second husband: Donald Burling, grandson: Matthew Burling, sisters: Lana Ewald & Bev Kuhrt & brother: Larry Smith. She is survived by her daughter: Kim (Ray) Matton of Rice Lake, step-daughters: Jane (Clarence) Wicken of Chetek & Donna Burling of Alabama, step-sons: Dale (Diane) Burling of North Dakota, Paul (June) Burling of Wyoming, Donald Burling, Jr. of Rice Lake, Tom (Sandra) Burling of Louisiana, George Burling of Louisiana & Jim (Lynn) Burling of North Carolina, 1 grandson, 17 step-grandchildren, 21 step-great grandchildren, 3 step-great great grandchildren, brothers: George “Sam” Smith of Eugene, OR, Terry (Char) Smith of Cameron, Lonnie Smith of Barron, Steve Smith of Chippewa Falls & Dale (Joyce) Smith of Rice Lake, sister: Wendy (Bruce) Rundhaug of Cameron, special friend: Carl Huset of Chetek, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.

Funeral Services

Funeral service will be (were) held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 8th at New Scandinavia Lutheran Church in the Town of Maple Grove, rural Dallas, with Rev. Heather Kistner officiating & interment following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be (was) held from 4-7 p.m. Wednesday & 10-11 a.m. Thursday, both at the church. Arrangements are with Rausch-Lundeen Funeral Homes, Dallas & Cameron.
