Laurie J. Abbuehl

Laurie Jo Abbuehl, 65, passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2022. She was born in New Richmond, WI on June 15, 1956, the 8th child of Adolph & Alvia (Anderson) Abbuehl. Shortly after her birth, she was found to have a developmental disability, and although doctors encouraged her parents to put her in an institution, they kept her at home and cared for her. She began school in Special Education classes at the age of 7 in the Barron County Special Education Program. She completed this education at age 21. She then began working at the Barron County Developmental Disability Center in Barron, WI. She enjoyed going to “school” there until 2016, when her health deteriorated.Following the death of her mother in 1990, Laurie lived with her sister and brother-in-law Deb and Eric Hallingstad until 1991. She moved to the Campbell Hilltop Home in Barron until 2016, when she had to move to Barron Care & Rehab. In 2019, she moved to J&J Hilltop Hollow a CBRF at Glenwood City, WI, where she remained until her death.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, Adolph & Alvia Abbuehl, grandparents: Christian & Caroline Abbuehl and Louis & Emma Anderson, a brother: Roger Abbuehl, sister: Donna Holten, nephews: Ryan Holten, Travis Christenson and Rodney & Troy Kahl, nieces: Mary Abramson Nedland and infant Kelly Rhodes, brothers-in-law: Larry Kahl & Keith Smith, sister-in-law: Janette Abbuehl, great nephews: Nathan Abbuehl, Brennan Webb and infant Dean Harrison. Laurie is survived by siblings: Carol Abbuehl of Prairie Farm, Sandra Rhodes of Birchwood, Susan Kahl of Prairie Farm, Linda (Joe) Walsberger of Prairie Farm, Cheryl (Gary) Oettinger of Green Bay, WI, Deb (Eric) Hallingstad of Cumberland and Jeffery (Shawn) Abbuehl of Sarona and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces & nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, and friends.

Funeral Services

Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 14th at United Lutheran Church in Prairie Farm, with Rev. Sara Feld officiating. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will be at Sunset Cemetery, Town of Prairie Farm.
